Many of you already know of the passing of Reverend Roy Mayhugh on October 19th. We will hold a memorial service to acknowledge the  passing of our loved and respected Walnut Grove Buddhist Church minister.

Roy was born in West Plains, Missouri in 1936. He resided in Sacramento for 55 years. Passed away 10/19/2017. He was a kind, generous scholar and musician. He was a Reverend at the Walnut Grove Buddhist Church. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Sacramento Sheriff’s Office in March 1994. He was a Scottish Rite Master Mason at the 32nd degree. He served in the United States Air Force for 8 years as a Staff’s Sergeant Radio Operator. He was also a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He will be dearly missed by his 5 children, survived by 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

FUNDRAISER:  Preserve Walnut Grove Buddhist Church – Built 1927 by Issei of Walnut Grove

The Walnut Grove Buddhist Church annual golf tournament, “Open/Turkey Shoot” is hosting its tournament on Friday, Nov. 1 at Wildhawk Golf Course in Sacramento. This year’s fundraiser will help preserve the Walnut Grove Buddhist Church, built in 1927 by the Issei of Walnut Grove.

Northern California District Council Music Festival

Singers, dancers and instrumentalists from the Sangha’s of each NCDC (Northern California District Council) temple will volunteer their time and talents to present a memorable day of fun and entertainment. The temples of the Northern California District Council which include: Marysville; Placer; Florin; Sacramento; Lodi; Stockton and Walnut Grove will sponsor a Dharma Music Festival on Saturday, Aug. 31. The event will be held at the outdoor amphitheater of the Walnut Grove Buddhist Church. Slated to run from 11a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs, pop-up tents and bar-b-ques.

Special guest artist will be Reverend Harry Bridge with his new jazz and funk band.

As an added feature, a self-guided walking tour of the historical Walnut Grove Japan Town and newly remodeled Japanese Language School will be available to early arrivals. Gates will open at 8 a.m.
